New Delhi: Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MP Vijay Bahadur Singh has been expelled from the party after he praised Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi. Vijay Bahadur Singh had backed Modi and claimed that the Gujarat Chief Minister is a "sensitive person and his comments have been misinterpreted".
Singh has made the comments while reacting to Modi's interview to Reuters in which he had said that he had done "absolutely the right thing" during the 2002 Gujarat riots and described himself as a "Hindu nationalist". He had also said that even if a "puppy comes under the wheel of a car, one feels sad" when asked whether he regretted the 2002 riots.
BSP chief Mayawati had said that Singh's comment "was his personal view and not that of the party". Mayawati had already replaced Singh as party candidate from Hamirpur, a seat that he currently represents in the Lok Sabha, for the 2014 elections.
In 2012, the Samajwadi Party had expelled Shahid Siddiqui for praising Modi's economic policies.
