BJP would win more than 1 seat in Kerala: Swaraj
Sushma Swaraj said that BJP's intention was to work as an 'effective opposition' in the Kerala Assembly.

Kochi: The intention of BJP, which has not opened its account in the Kerala assembly, is to ensure that more than one representative gets elected in the April 13 polls, Opposition leader in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj said on Saturday.

"The party wants to send more than one representative to the assembly this time.We are confident that BJP will win one or two seats this time," the senior BJP leader told reporters. BJP's intention was to work as an 'effective opposition' in the Kerala Assembly, she said.

The ruling CPM-led LDF and UDF spearheaded by Congress were coming to power alternatively and there was no 'effective opposition' in the assembly, she said.

The party's state leadership had held discussions with Nair Service Society and the SNDP (Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana Yogam), Kerala's prominent community-based organisations, and had appealed to them to support BJP.

Though their leaders have not responded, it cannot be considered as a 'positive' or 'negative' sign, she said adding BJP was confident they would favour it.

The statement by SNDP (of backward Ezhava community) that BJP was not a bad party was a 'positive sign', she said. NSS wants that the poor among the forward caste must be brought under the ambit of reservation and BJP also subscribes to this view, she said.

Asked if the proposed Lokpal bill would eradicate corruption from society, Swaraj said she cannot comment on the draft bill as it is not in public domain.

"It is good beginning. There is need to create awareness. Corruption is not limited to political parties; it is part of the society. So there is need to create awareness," she said.
