Jammu: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad accused the BJP of taking a "U-turn" and trying to "scuttle" the Indo-Pak peace process which was initiated by its own regime on Monday.
"BJP is trying to scuttle the Indo-Pak peace process by opposing it," Azad said adding, "it was initiated by the NDA government under the Prime Ministership of Atal Bihari Vajpayee and the Congress, then in opposition, extended its full support.”
"Congress did not oppose when President Musharraf visited Agra. We also supported them," Azad said and charged that "now the BJP has taken a U-turn from their own stand.”
"To work against one's own initiative is not befitting. We should think above all political considerations and work for peace and development," he maintained.
Azad, talking to reporters after the joint address by Governor S K Sinha to the Jammu and Kashmir Legislature, said.
"We are hopeful that forthcoming Foreign Ministerial talks in Islamabad would be successful. Several issue relating to Jammu and Kashmir would come up for discussions in the meeting,” Sinha added.
He also hoped that the talks between External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee and his Pakistani counterpart would carry forward the dialogue process between the two countries.
"Many proposals have been floated by neighbouring country and dialogue is the only means to discuss all aspects and work out strategies. President Musharraf has also given his proposals in this direction," he added.
