Amethi: Rahul Gandhi up against over two dozen little known candidates
According to local voters, the real fight is between Rahul Gandhi, Smriti Irani and Kumar Vishwas.

Amethi: Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi is facing 33 candidates in Amethi. Perhaps he is fighting the toughest political battle of his life against BJP's Smriti Irani and AAP's Kumar Vishwas.

There are 34 candidates in the fray including Rahul Gandhi. Besides Smriti Irani and Kumar Vishwas over a dozen unknown political parties are also contesting against him. According to local people, these little known political parties may not cause any dent in his vote bank or his prospects. But, they can cause confusion among the voters.

These political parties claim that they represent the farmers, Dalits, poor voters etc.

Gopal Swaroop Gandhi of the Kisan Majdoor Berojgar Sangh (KMBS) claims that he is fighting for the welfare of labourers and farmers. Pragatisheel Samaj Party's CL Maurya wants to develop Amethi into a top class constituency in India.

The PSP was launched four years ago and also fought the Delhi Assembly elections last year. Vedpal Shastri of Vanchit Samaj Insaaf Party or strangely named VIP is confident of defeating Rahul Gandhi in Amethi. Little known or 'letter head' parties like PECP's Zahida Begam, BMP's Babu Lal, MBCOI's Ravi Kumar, SSRD's Radhe Mohan, RAMSP's Ram Asrey, PMSP's Ram Newaj, MWSP's Ramsidh Yadav, QED's Mohamad Hasan Lahri are also facing Rahul Gandhi in Amethi.

Besides these 'political party' candidates, Rahul Gandhi is also up against 17 Independents.

According to local voters, the real fight is between Rahul Gandhi, Smriti Irani and Kumar Vishwas. Remaining 31 candidates are like 'side actors' in a cinema and most of them are in the fray just for some publicity. Many of them have not campaigned in the constituency even for a day. Nobody has seen them after the filing of nomination papers.

Less than 5-6 'insignificant' candidates have done some campaigning here and there. One candidate claims that he has spent Rs 40,000 on the campaign.

What's your reaction?
