New Delhi: The UPA government has approached two sitting judges in the Allahabad High Court to head the commission set up to probe the 'Snoopgate' controversy involving Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, say sources.
Both the judges have reportedly expressed their willingness to take over the post. However, a final call will be taken on the same after taking Chief Justice's consent.
The sources further said that the Election Commission would be approached as soon as the CJI gives the nod.
The Union Cabinet had on December 26, 2013 decided to set up the Commission of Inquiry to probe charges of illegal surveillance on a young woman in 2009 by Gujarat authorities allegedly on directions of Modi. Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde had requested the Law Minister to recommend a retired judge of the Supreme Court to head the probe panel.
