Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government on Wednesday ordered the suspension of officers looking at welfare schemes in in Raebareli, Congress President Sonia Gandhi's constituency.
The suspension order was issued against District officer Vidyaram Ahirwar and officers in the supplies and education department. The District officer was suspended for not ensuring proper services at fair price shops.
The Samajwadi Party is upset after Sonia Gandhi wrote to the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh urging him to look into Durga Nagpal's suspension.
The UP government said it will constantly monitor all welfare schemes in Rae Bareilly. The village where the inspection was done is part of the ambitious Ram Manohar Lohia rural development scheme of the Samajwadi Party government where villages are developed on a particular model at a fast pace. He cautioned officials that he won't spare anyone if found wanting in discharging their duties.
This is the first time Akhilesh Yadav conducted such an inspection. Akhilesh's visits has triggered speculation that the Samajwadi Party is trying to raise the stakes against the Congress.
