New Delhi: Blaming undue haste in Narendra Modi's anointment at Goa, senior BJP leader LK Advani told party president Rajnath Singh that it led to the disintegration of a 17-year-old alliance, according to sources.
"LK Advani tells Rajnath Singh that undue haste at Goa in Narendra Modi's anointment has led to the disintegration of a 17-year-old alliance," sources said.
The 17-year-old BJP-JD(U) association ended on Sunday. The decision was taken at a Janata Dal United meet, which was called at Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's residence in Patna. "We are not responsible for taking this step, have been forced to take this step. The BJP could not see the writing on the wall and were blaming us instead. Saw the alliance drifting away from the founding principles," announced Nitish.
All senior JD(U) leaders, including party president Sharad Yadav, attended the meeting.
Over the last few months, Nitish Kumar had given enough hints that elevation of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi was not acceptable to him. And ever since Modi was appointed as the BJP's campaign committee chief at the recently concluded National Executive in Goa, the Bihar Chief Minister had openly expressed his opposition to the decision.
