New Delhi: The rift within the BJP is out in the open with senior leader LK Advani not in favour of projecting Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi as its Prime Ministerial candidate for the next general elections, according to sources.
Sushma Swaraj and Uma Bharti have also taken positions against Modi's elevation while Yashwant Sinha and Shivraj Singh Chauhan have hailed Advani as the tallest leader within BJP and fit for the PM post.
On the other hand, the RSS is of the view that a consensus candidate be chosen from within the BJP, but the party should have a leader in place before next elections.
Meanwhile, Modi attended his first BJP Parliamentary board meeting on Tuesday. In his typical tech-savvy manner, Modi spoke on the importance of social media and how to harness it for the elections. Modi pitched for the forthcoming BJP national executive as the platform to delineate the failures of the UPA government and firm up the party's strategy for the 2014 elections.
The BJP board passed three resolutions on political, economic and foreign affairs and defence preparedness. The BJP's national executive next month in Goa will put into place the preparations for the Lok Sabha and five Assembly elections.
Modi was inducted into the BJP's Parliamentary board in March this year. Ahead of BJP's Parliamentary board meeting, Modi met senior party leader LK Advani in the national capital.
