2G: SC verdict on plea against Chidambaram today
Janata Party chief Subramanian Swamy has claimed that the culpability of P Chidambaram is similar to that of A Raja in the case.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court will pass its order on Friday on petitions seeking a probe against Finance Minister P Chidambaram for his alleged role in the 2G spectrum allocation scam. Janata Party chief Subramanian Swamy is demanding a CBI probe against Chidambaram and wants him to be made a co-accused in the controversial 2G scam.

Swamy has alleged that former telecom minister and main accused A Raja and Chidambaram had worked together in fixing 2G spectrum prices. Swamy also claims that the culpability of Chidambaram is similar to that of Raja.

A bench of justices GS Singhvi and KS Radhakrishnan, which had not issued notices to the government and Chidambaram so far, will decide whether the petitions filed by Swamy and an NGO Centre for Public Interest Litigation are maintainable or not.

Swamy had moved the court challenging the trial court order which had held that Chidambaram did not indulge in any criminal conspiracy in the 2G scam and refused to make him an accused in the case.

The application filed by the NGO, submitted that a "thorough investigation" was required to probe the role of Chidambaram, who was the Finance Minister when spectrum was allocated to telecom companies during the tenure of A Raja as Telecom Minister in 2008.
