The first semi-final, played at the Wankhede Stadium on November 15, turned out to be a high-scoring thriller.

India overcame the ghosts of 2019 to finally beat the Kiwis in a knockout game and they did it in a scintillating fashion. Having won the toss, the Rohit Sharma-led side decided to bat first.

India’s top batting order stepped up massively against the Kiwis, putting together a mammoth total of 397 runs.

Both Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer had scored centuries while Shubman Gill added an unbeaten 80 runs to the scoreboard.

In the second innings, Mohammed Shami produced a magical show to take seven wickets, helping India win by 70 runs.

Daryl Mitchell smashed a century in the game for the Black Caps while skipper Kane Williamson added 69 runs in 73 balls. Despite an amazing display from the duo, the Kiwis fell a little short of reaching the massive target.

India will be facing a fiery Australian side next in hope of clinching their third ODI world title.

After losing both their opening games of the tournament, the Aussies scripted a sensational comeback in the group stage. Their winning streak continued in the semi-finals where they got the better of South Africa by three wickets at the Eden Gardens.

The finale is being touted as a rematch of the 2003 World Cup final.

In that game, the Sourav Ganguly-led Indian team lost to the Aussies.
