Afghanistan had a poor start to their campaign for international glory as they lost back-to-back matches against Bangladesh and India. However, the team seems to have recovered perfectly as they took apart England by 69 runs before beating Pakistan by eight wickets. They continued their brilliant run in form against Sri Lanka on October 30 at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium.
Afghanistan won the toss and decided to bowl first. They created constant pressure on the Sri Lankan batters, dismissing the entire squad at a scoreline of 241 runs. Fazalhaq Farooqi had the best bowling performance which saw him scalp four wickets in the match. Mujeeb Ur Rahman also contributed with two wickets of his own.

In the second innings, Afghanistan lost a wicket early as Rahmanullah Gurbaz departed for a duck in the first over. However, Rahmat Shah’s 62 runs in 74 balls and Azamatullah Omarzai’s 73-run knock helped secure a dominant seven-wicket win for Afghanistan.
With three wins in the bag, Afghanistan now have a shot of making the knockout phase but they would have to continue winning in their upcoming games. They are set to face the Netherlands next on November 3 at the Ekana Sports City Stadium.
