US Embassy in India Records Highest Volume of Visa Applications Processed, Beats Past Numbers
The US Embassy in India reported that it has processed the most visa applications in 2023 as more Indian students pursue higher education overseas

As India becomes more globalised and the younger generation looks for international exposure from an early age, more and more Indian students opt for completing their higher studies and specialisations from foreign institutions. In this scenario, the USA has been a preferred choice for Indian students for a long time now.  The US Embassy in India’s official X (formerly known as Twitter) account recently revealed that it effectively processed the largest number of visa applications in 2023 compared to any previous calendar year. The embassy also reaffirmed its commitment to serving a bigger number of students, workers, and visitors who wish to get their US visas, in the coming weeks.

The US Embassy in India triumphantly announced in September this year that it had met its annual target of processing one million visas. Nearly 90,000 of these were student visas. Even at that point, the total number of visas processed outweighed both the total number of visas handled in 2022 and the records from the pre-pandemic years.

Recently, US Ambassador to India, Eric Garcetti, announced that Indian students studying in the United States have set records for the third consecutive year. Speaking at the 45th Anniversary Of The Humphrey Fellowship Programme, Garcetti disclosed that the academic year 2022-23 witnessed a historic surge, with the number of Indian students in the US surpassing an impressive 2,68,000.

Garcetti emphasised the profound impact of Indian students on the US education landscape, revealing that they now constitute a staggering quarter of all international students in the country. This significant achievement not only solidifies the academic prowess of Indian students but also marks a transformative shift in the demographic dynamics of international graduate students in the United States.

Ambassador Garcetti also provided a thought on the evolving relationship between the United States and India, emphasising its multiplicative and exponential nature.
