Star Indian opener Shafali Verma has been appointed captain of the North Zone team for the upcoming BCCI Women’s Inter-Zonal T20 tournament. Shafali was appointed captain of the North Zone side on Tuesday, November 7, in a meeting of the North Zone Selection Committee at the capital.
Indian all-rounder Harleen Deol has been appointed duty to Shafali.
The North Zone Selection Committee comprising of Poonam Bhardwaj, Surbhi Dadeechi, Gurdeep Kaur, Surender Mehta, Richa Sehgal, and Amita Sharma, picked a 15-strong squad for the Inter-Zonal tournament which is scheduled to be held in Lucknow from November 24 to December 4.

Apart from the likes of Shafali, and Harleen veteran wicketkeeper batter Tanya Bhatia as well as Sushma Verma have also made the cut.
The squad also includes pacer Amanjot Kaur, whereas India’s U-19 World Cup-winning stars such as Shweta Sehrawat, Kashvi Gautam and Mannat Kashyap have also been named in the North Zone unit.

The selection committee also named five players in the standby list, featuring Aradhana Bisht, Lakshi Yadav, Pragati Singh, Anju Tomar and Yamuna Rana.
Poonam Bhardwaj will be the manager of the North Zone unit, with Anju Jain as coach, while Sakita Sharma, Omi Yadav and Ankit Arora will also be a part of the support staff.
