Players DC Likely to Release/Retain: After a disastrous IPL 2023, Delhi Capitals have a tough task ahead of themselves to rejuvenate themselves ahead of next season of the cash-rich league and that process will begin with the mini-auction next month. However, to add more firepower to their team, they need to release some players who failed to justify their price tag in the last season.
The BCCI has set 26 November as the deadline for the players’ retention and Delhi Capitals have to pull up their socks and run their minds to evaluate how they are planning to go next season in search of their maiden title.
Delhi Capitals finished 9th on the points table last season with just five wins in their kitty out of 14 matches. The Delhi-based franchise has now missed out on playoffs for two seasons in a row after finishing in fifth place during the IPL 2022 campaign. The batting unit failed miserably last season as skipper David Warner had to bat defensively to bat deep as other players didn’t support him much.
Rishabh Pant, who missed last season due to the injuries he sustained during a car accident, is expected to get fit in time for the next IPL as Delhi might give him the captaincy back.
However, they are expected to retain David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, Kuldeep Yadav, and Axar Patel alongside Pant.
It will be interesting to see whether DC will retain Prithvi Shaw for one more season. The flamboyant batter has been recovering from a knee injury and is expected to miss competitive cricket this year.
Delhi Capitals have already parted ways with their assistant coaches Ajit Agarkar and Shane Watson.
The Capitals recently held a training session for their young players at the Jadavpur University second Campus Cricket Association of Bengal ground in Salt Lake, Kolkata.
