Made By Google 2023 Event: What to Expect Today

Pixel 8 Series

Google has confirmed that the Pixel 8 series will launch today during its event. This year, Google is expected to continue its strategy of releasing two new Pixel devices—a Pro and a standard variant. We anticipate the Pixel 8 Pro with a 6.7-inch panel and a smaller Pixel 8 with a 6.2-inch panel. Both panels are expected to support 120Hz refresh rate, but only the Pixel 8 Pro may get a QHD+ LTPO panel.

Both of these smartphones are expected to be powered by Google’s third-generation Tensor chipset, the Tensor G3. The devices are rumored to introduce several industry-first features, such as the temperature sensor in the Pixel 8 Pro and a new Night Mode equivalent for videos, as well as Audio Magic Eraser, which might allow users to remove unwanted audio from video and audio clips.

Based on earlier leaks, the Pixel 8 Pro and Pixel 8 are expected to come with higher price tags—potentially costing $999 and $699, respectively.

Pixel Watch 2

Last year, Google introduced the Pixel Watch, and this year, the search giant will launch the second iteration of the same watch. The design is expected to remain largely unchanged based on the leaks we’ve seen so far. However, internally, the watch is expected to feature several changes—including the Qualcomm SW5100 chipset, which is the Snapdragon W5 coupled with the Qualcomm Adreno 702 GPU, running on the new WearOS 4.

Additionally, although it should be taken with a grain of salt, Google is also expected to switch from stainless steel casing to aluminum—reducing the overall weight and improving comfort.

The Pixel Watch 2 is confirmed to launch in India this year, but the pricing details remain unclear as of now. Based on leaks, the Pixel Watch 2 could start at $349 in the US.

Android 14 Release

Earlier this week, Canadian telecom operator Telus provided an approximate date of October 4 for the release of Android U, which is Android 14, for all compatible Pixel devices. This suggests that Google might launch Android 14 for compatible Pixel devices today.

The Android 14 update will be compatible with the following Google Pixel devices: Pixel 4a 5G, Pixel 5, Pixel 5a, Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 6a, Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel 7a, and the Pixel Fold. It will feature iterative changes over Android 13, including improved privacy and security, which involves blocking the installation of old apps targeted for Android 5.1 and earlier.

Pixel Buds Pro

It’s not entirely clear if Google is going to launch a new generation of Pixel Buds Pro earbuds, but based on rumors, it may release new color options for the existing Pixel Buds Pro—including a new Porcelain and Blue color. It may match the new Pixel 8 Pro, which is also expected to launch in a new Blue shade called Bay.
