India 1983 World Cup-winning star Krishnamachari Srikkanth feels that Virat Kohli should be a certainty in the T20 World Cup squad, while he also backs Rohit Sharma to get selected. India last won an ICC trophy more than a decade back – 2013 Champions Trophy, they came close to winning the ODI WC last year but lost in the final to Australia.
Kohli and Rohit were the standout performers for India in the ODI World Cup 2023 as they finished as the top two run-scorers.
However, the duo has not played a T20I for more than a year now. It was the 2022 T20 WC semifinal where both Kohli and Rohit last played a T20I for India.

Srikkanth has backed Kohli and Rohit to get into India’s T20 World Cup squad.
“Virat Kohli is a certainty. He is in great form. Rohit Sharma, maybe, is confident because of how he scored in the World Cup. He will regroup and try and do well in the IPL. If Rohit Sharma says I am available, you can’t say you will drop him,” Kris Srikkanth said in his YouTube show.
The former India captain and chief selectors said that Rohit is hurt after failing to win the ODI World Cup and will be eager to help the team win the T20 WC.
“At the end of the day, Rohit Sharma is also hurt that he has lost a World Cup. He would like to go out with a World Cup in his hand at least. He was there in the 2007 World Cup. He would want to do something similar, win a World Cup, and go out.
“Virat Kohli would definitely want to win a T20 World Cup. Moreover, last year only the T20 World Cup took place, 13 months back. Virat Kohli was in extraordinary form,” Srikkanth added.
He further said that if the duo makes themselves available then it will be tough to ignore them.. Meanwhile, Srikkanth also pointed out that the selectors have to keep Hardik’s fitness in mind if they want to make him the captain.
“If they say they are available, I don’t think you can drop them. If you want to give captaincy to Hardik, you can. But you have to also look at his (Hardik’s) fitness.”
