A 38-year-old man was brutally beaten to death with bricks in Delhi when he tried to save his son during a fight with a group of boys on Friday, police said. The incident happened in the Sanjay Colony area, Okhla Phase Two.

The victim, identified as Mohammad Hanif, worked as a porter. His two minor sons were also injured in the clash, police said.

Hanif’s 14-year-old son went outside to get his bike that was parked in a street at around 11:00 pm on Friday night. He found a group of four to five boys sitting on it, blocking his way.

The boys refused to move upon being asked and an argument ensued which quickly escalated into a brawl.

Hanif, upon hearing the commotion outside, reached the spot and tried to save his son from being attacked by the boys. The boys, in turn, started beating him with bricks.

Responding to an emergency call, a police team quickly reached the spot and rushed the victim to AIIMS’ trauma centre where he was declared dead.

A case has been registered in the matter and a search for the accused is underway.

The victim, who was assaulted around 2:00 am, was later found lifeless in a green area near Tila Mor six hours later. Following a complaint lodged by Anil’s family, three owners of furniture shops were taken into custody.

Shubham Patel, the Deputy Commissioner of Police for the trans-Hindon area, stated that they received information about Anil’s body from a passerby at approximately 8:00 am. He said, “It appeared that he had suffered fatal blows. There were no visible external injuries. A forensic team conducted an examination of the crime scene, and the body was sent for an autopsy.”

These incidents come at a time when the entire New Delhi district has been converted into an impenetrable fortress with top-level security arrangements in place for the G20 Summit.
