Classic Legends Plans to Debut its First All-Electric Motorcycle in 2024
Classic Legends, backed by Mahindra & Mahindra, plans a Rs 1,000 crore investment for motorcycles, including an affordable electric model by 2024.

In a groundbreaking development, Classic Legends is gearing up to revolutionize the motorcycle industry with its very first all-electric two-wheeler, slated for a global debut in 2024.

In an exclusive partnership that has ignited excitement across the automotive world, Classic Legends has partnered with the prestigious University of Warwick to manufacture an affordable electric motorcycle that could soon grace the streets of European markets, proudly bearing the iconic BSA brand.

Classic Legends, the dynamic subsidiary of Mahindra & Mahindra, boasts an impressive portfolio that includes legendary names such as Jawa and Yezdi. The company has recently made waves by committing a staggering investment of Rs 1,000 crore towards the development of cutting-edge products and the expansion of its distribution network.

Having said that, this substantial investment will fuel a range of initiatives. These includes developing new products, launching powerful marketing campaigns, expanding their reach through international distribution networks, and pioneering innovative product engineering, among other vital endeavors.

Anupam Thareja, the visionary behind Classic Legends explains, “Our ultimate goal is to become a renowned Indian motorcycle conglomerate on a global scale.” He’s determined that this move will help the company recover from the losses it faced over the past three years, with a strong resolve to turn a profit in the current fiscal year. It’s noteworthy that Classic Legends achieved profitability during its first full year of operations in FY20 but faced some tough challenges thereafter.

In the realm of classic middleweight motorcycles, Royal Enfield currently reigns supreme in the Indian market, dominating the segment for motorcycles over 250cc with a starting price above Rs 1.5 lakh. This segment accounts for a significant portion of the 16-17 million units sold annually in the broader two-wheeler market. It’s become a sought-after target for both Indian and global motorcycle manufacturers, thanks to its premiumization trend and the promise of substantial returns.
