The full-day tariffs range from Rs 40,000 for a meeting hall on the ground floor that can accommodate 50 people to Rs 25 lakh for the multifunctional hall, which can host at least 4,000 people

Built for the grand G20 celebrations, where India played host to world leaders including US President Joe Biden and UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak in September, Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi’s Pragati Maidan complex is now open for bookings if you are looking to hold events like exhibitions, seminars, conferences among others. It cannot, however, be used as a venue for weddings or birthdays.

During G20, Bharat Mandapam was the centrepiece to India’s successful presidency and was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on July 26. Indian Trade Promotion Organization (ITPO) has fixed the booking policy and tariff rates for the facilities at the international convention centre, where you can hold events like exhibitions, seminars, conferences, trade promotion events, symposiums and so on.

According to a report published by News18 Hindi, ITPO officials said the cost of organising at event at Bharat Mandapam will be slightly more expensive as compared to the halls in Pragati Maidan. They said wedding ceremonies or birthday celebrations cannot be organised at Bharat Mandapam, but the convention centre’s popularity can be gauged from how all the ministries are trying to book it for their events.

The daily rent for the most expensive multifunctional hall that can host at least 4,000 people, is Rs 25 lakh while the rent for the ground floor meeting room has been fixed at Rs 1.30 lakh. The least expensive is the meeting hall that can accommodate 50 people, which is available for a whole day for Rs 40,000. The summit room, which hosted the heads of states from 19 countries and the EU, can be booked for Rs 12 lakh.

Here are the booking rates for Bharat Mandapam as announced by the ITPO:

  1. Full-day rental for facilities at Level 1, or L1 Rs 40,000 for a meeting room for 50 people, Rs 60,000 for a room with 100 people and Rs 1,30,000 for space that can accommodate 200 people. All these spaces are also available for half-day bookings with the smallest room of 50 people available for Rs 25,000 for half a day.
  2. ‘PM Room’ premium complex This space is for important meetings and is available for booking at Rs 3 lakh. Timings for half-day rental for each meeting room have been fixed at 4 am to 3 pm (11 hours) and 4 pm to 2 am (10 hours).
  3. Facilities at second floor, or L2 This level has two large halls with a fixed seating capacity of 600 and 900 each and a summit room with a round table seating space for at least 85 people. It also has a large lounge area adjoining the summit room, which can be used as a conference room. Booking rates for auditoriums with 600 and 900 capacities are Rs 4 lakh and Rs 5 lakh, while the summit room costs Rs 12 lakh.
  4. Facilities at L3 Daily rent for the most expensive multifunctional hall, which can host at least 4,000 people, is Rs 25 lakh. This floor also has an adjoining amphitheatre (plenary hall) that can seat 3,000 people. It has a movable screen dividing the two spaces, which can both be combined to accommodate more than 7,000 people.
  5. Costliest of all L3 is the most expensive portion with a tariff of Rs 15 lakh for the plenary hall and Rs 25 lakh for the multifunctional hall. The open-air amphitheatre is available for Rs 2 lakh. The convention centre has a parking that can accommodate 1,000 vehicles at the surface level and another 4,000 underground.

What are the other conditions?

There are stringent conditions on cleanliness, housekeeping and maintenance. In fact, chewing or spitting paan carries a fine of Rs 1,00,000.

“Since the completion of the two-day G20 summit in September, there has been very high curiosity about the venue and we have received various delegations from government departments, armed forces and private organisations to use the facility,” an ITPO official told Hindustan Times.

“Unlike Vigyan Bhavan, the unique feature about the convention centre is that it can be used for small meetings of 50 people at one end to massive gatherings of over 7,000 people,” the official was quoted as saying.
