Alia Bhatt clinched the prestigious National Award for the Best Actress (that she shared with Kriti Sanon for Mimi) for her outstanding performance Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Gangubai Kathiawadi. The grand National Award ceremony in Delhi and the actress was accompanied by her husband, actor Ranbir Kapoor.
During the event, veteran Bollywood actress Waheeda Rehman was been honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award by the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting’s Directorate of Film Festivals. This prestigious award is given in recognition of her exceptional contribution to the advancement and enrichment of Indian cinema. The actress was seated right in front of Ranbir and Alia.
Waheeda Rehman, aged 85, was seated when photographers swarmed around her, nearly pushing her desk. Ranbir, putting up his gentlemanly demeanour, requested the media to be cautious, considering the possibility that the veteran actress could be potentially injured. The veteran actress, as she got up on stage to receive the prestigious award, was visibly emotional. She was honoured with a standing ovation. She dedicated the award to the entire film industry, saying that an actor is nothing without the support of all the departments of filmmaking including directors, makeup artists, music composers and others.
Meanwhile, post the event, Ranbir hugged Kriti and congratulated her on the big win. He was also seen greeting Allu Arjun. The video capturing the moment, is now going viral on the internet. Fans are of the opinion that such interactions are rare and truly heartwarming. Many went on to say that it shows the warmth and camaraderie within the film industry. Ranbir was also photographed recording Alia Bhatt’s felicitation on stage.
