Salman Khan and Anushka Sharma’s pairing in Ali Abbas Zafar’s sports drama, Sultan, was loved by fans, making the movie a huge hit. But did you know that Anushka wasn’t the first choice for the role? Yes, Salman Khan revealed that another talented actress, who has consistently impressed the audiences with her acting prowess, met him with Ali Abbas Zafar before Anushka did. However, Salman felt that Anushka would suit the role better.
On an episode of Bigg Boss 15, Shahid Kapoor and Mrunal Thakur dropped by Salman Khan’s show to promote their film Jersey. During the show, Salman mentioned, “Let me tell you an interesting fact about her. The original star of Sultan was her. She came to the farm (house) to meet me. Ali (Abbas Zafar) had brought her. And that time she didn’t look like a pahalwan.”
He further added, “I thought in my mind that she doesn’t look like a pahalwan. Well, even Anushka (Sharma) didn’t look like one. But I knew she would do good.” Mrunal added, “Let me tell you Shahid, maine uss time bahut zyada wazan ghata liya tha (I had lost a lot of weight at that time).”
Sultan, a sports drama directed by Ali Abbas Zafar and produced by Aditya Chopra for Yash Raj Films, featured Salman Khan and Anushka Sharma in the lead roles as wrestlers, supported by Kumud Mishra, Randeep Hooda, and Amit Sadh in pivotal roles. The film was a blockbuster at the box office, grossing Rs 607.84 crore worldwide.
On the work front, Salman will star in Tiger Vs Pathaan. Meanwhile, his brother Sohail Khan is set to revive Sher Khan, a jungle-adventure film starring Salman and Kapil Sharma. At a recent event, he exclusively spoke to News18 Showsha about bouncing back to larger-than-life Hindi cinema with Sher Khan and revealed that he’s planning on taking it to floors in 2025. As for Anushka, the actress just had a baby boy with husband Virat Kohli. They have named him Akaay.
