Yuvan Shankar Raja Files Defamation Case Against House Owner Over Rent Dues

Yuvan Shankar Raja, a prominent South Indian film composer, is currently embroiled in a legal dispute. The controversy began when Mohammad Javid, the brother of Jameela from whom Yuvan had rented a house in Nungambakkam, Chennai, lodged a police complaint. Javid accused Yuvan of owing Rs 20 lakh in rent and vacating the house suddenly without informing the landlord, causing damage to the property. Reports claim that Javid is seeking legal recourse for the unpaid rent and damages.

In his defence, Yuvan Shankar Raja has refuted these accusations, asserting that the claims are fabricated and intended to defame him. He has filed a countersuit against Javid for defamation, seeking Rs 5 crore in compensation for the alleged false allegations. This legal tussle has captured the attention of the film industry.

Professionally, Yuvan continues to make waves with his music, recently garnering praise for his work on the GOAT trailer, a film starring Vijay and directed by Venkat Prabhu. This track has significantly boosted anticipation among fans and added to the online buzz surrounding the film.

Over the past 25 years, Yuvan Shankar Raja has composed music for more than 170 films. As the youngest son of the legendary composer Ilaiyaraaja, Yuvan started his career in the music industry at the age of 16 with the film score for

Aravindhan in 1996. His breakthrough came with the soundtrack of Thulluvadho Ilamai in 2002, after which he quickly rose to become one of the leading music directors in Tamil cinema by the mid-2000s.

He received the Filmfare Award for Best Music Director- Tamil in 2004 for his work in 7G Rainbow Colony and made history in 2006 as the only Indian composer to win at the Cyprus International Film Festival for his soundtrack of Raam. In 2009, he earned the Filmfare Special Award – South for his composition in the Telugu film Oy!

Expanding his talent beyond composing, Yuvan launched his music label, U1 Records, in 2015 and founded his film production company, YSR Films, in 2017.
