Big B once disclosed the story behind changing his surname in his own show, Kaun Banega Crorepati, and also, long before, he had shared this story in an interview. The actor claimed that the secret of his surname change was the gift of his father Harivansh Rai Bachchan, who was a well-known poet.
Bachchan surname was the brainchild of his father Harivansh Rai Bachchan. He said, “you will never know what our caste is, from our surname and Babuji did this deliberately”. He again mentioned that his father is from a Kayastha family from Uttar Pradesh and got married to his mother who was from a Sikh family. During his admission in school, the actor mentioned that, instead of writing Srivastava, he wrote Bachchan. For the first time, he made his pen name as his surname.
Along with this, Big B again added that his father did not believe in casteism and therefore he decided to change his surname. The actor also expressed that he is very lucky that he is the first member of this family who was born and moved forward with the Bachchan surname.
Amitabh Bachchan reportedly did not only change his surname, but also his real name. According to reports, his name was Inquilab; but later on the advice of the poet, Sumitranandan pant, Harivansh Rai Bachchan changed his name from Inquilab to Amitabh.
