When Marvel fans watched Avengers: Endgame in 2019, Captain Marvel’s furious reaction towards Thanos might have seemed over the top. However, the recent episode of WandaVision has shed light on the reason behind Marvel superhero’s fury towards the antagonist and it all makes sense now.
The seventh episode of WandaVision traced the backstory of Monica Rambeau and her connection with Carol Danvers. In the 2019 movie Captain Marvel, we see the protagonist’s best friend Maria Rambeau, a fellow Air Force pilot, and her daughter Monica. The storyline of WandaVision set in the post-Endgame worldconfirms that Maria founded S.W.O.R.D., the Sentient Weapon Observation and Response Division, which is an American extra-governmental intelligence agency. Monica followed her mother’s footsteps and joined the agency. However, Monica soon became one of the casualties of Thanos’ snap and disappeared while in the hospital for her mother’s cancer treatment.
Monica returns to life five years later, but tragically discovers that Maria died from cancer two years after Monica was turned to dust. All this happens while Captain Marvel is away. So when Carol returns at the call of Nick Fury before he is also snapped to dust by Thanos, she finds both Maria and Monica gone. This discovery obviously leaves Carol devastated and she channels all her fury when she confronts Thanos as the marvel superheroes visit him on one of the planets.

Carol most likely knew that her friend was mourning the loss of her daughter which was a result of Thanos’ action and was angry with him for taking Monica away from her mother, especially at a time when she needed her family the most. These realisations added to Carol’s hatred towards Thanos, and a result of this is what we saw in the beginning of Avengers Endgame in 2019. WandaVision’s latest episode aired on February 19, 2021. The finale episode of the Marvel series will air this week.
