Vetrimaaran is considered one of the most successful directors in the Tamil cinema industry. With only a few films under his direction, the director has achieved five National Awards as a director and producer. He is currently busy in the post-production of the Viduthalai’s sequel after the success of its predecessor. The period crime thriller film stars Vijay Sethupathi, Bhavani Sre, Gautham Vasudev Menon and Rajiv Menon in the lead roles. The director, now a favourite of many, once worked as an assistant to the legendary filmmaker Balu Mahendra. His filmmaking is often called a reflection of Balu Mahendra’s style. The director now revealed a scene from his film Visaranai in which he used the house seen in Balu Mahendra’s hit film Veedu in 1988.
In a recent interview, director Vetrimaaran shared something he did in memory of his Guru Balu Mahendra in his film Visaranai. Balu Mahendra built a house used for the shooting of the film Veedu. The majority of the scenes were featured in this house. In his memory, Vetrimaaran, one of the assistants to Balu Mahendra, used the house as a police station in the film Visaranai. Balu Mahendra died due to cardiac arrest in 2014.
The construction of the house built by Balu Mahendra for the film Veedu was completed by Vetrimaaran for Visaranai. “The house in the film Veedu is the police station in the second half of the film Investigation. He was not alive when that film was released. I have thought many times how he would have reacted to this if he had been alive” said Vetrimaaran while talking to the host. The video is currently going viral.
