Indian TV shows are quite popular and were started as a medium for entertainment. People felt connected and learned to bond with TV shows like Hum Log and Buniyaad. In the early days, shows used to be made for less money than films. Hit shows like Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayana and BR Chopra’s Mahabharata were also not mega-budget shows in that era. But with time, the budget and scale of Indian television shows jumped. You must have seen many shows on TV and liked them. There are many shows that people still remember, like Shaktimaan, Chitrahaar, Tarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, Yeh Hai Mohabbatein, Kundali Bhagya and many more. After the advent of cinema and OTT, the number of viewers has declined, but still, TV is the biggest platform for entertainment even today. TV is watched in more than 200 million homes in India and this is the reason why producers are also not shying away from investing money in shows. Today, we’ll take a look at one of the most expensive TV shows in India. The show we are talking about is Ram Siya Ke Luv Kush, which came out in 2019.
Siddharth Kumar Tiwari created this mythological show based on the Ramayana. This show was the most expensive show on Indian television at the time. According to reports, more than Rs 4 crore was spent on making each episode of the show.
According to a report in Mid-Day, the total cost of making this show was Rs 650 crore. There was no such show before this on which TV makers had spent so much money. Due to this scale, it was often compared to SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali.
At the time of the show’s release in August 2019, the most expensive Indian film was Saaho, which had an estimated budget of Rs 350 crore. Ram Siya Ke Luv Kush had a budget double as compared to this. Talking about RRR and Brahmastra, both of these films were made at Rs 500-400 crore.
The most interesting thing is that in 2023, the film Adipurush, based on Ramayana, is called the most expensive film in India. Its budget was Rs 550 crore, yet it is less than Ram Siya Ke Luv Kush. Prabhas’ upcoming film Kalki 2898 AD also has a budget of Rs 600 crore, which is less than this TV show.
Talking about this show, Ram Siya Ke Luv Kush was based on Uttar Ramayan, which included Luv and Kush, the sons of Lord Ram and Sita. The show featured Himanshu Soni as Lord Ram and Shivya Pathania as Sita, while Krish Chauhan and Harshit Kabra played the characters of Luv and Kush. The show aired for 141 episodes from August 2019 until it ended in February 2020.
