Since Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s first-ever streaming series, Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar, premiered on Netflix on May 1, there’s been lots of talk about it. People are sharing different opinions, and interviews with the cast and crew are getting a lot of attention. Recently, actor Indresh Malik talked about filming a scene with co-star Sonakshi Sinha.

He remembered a funny moment on set with Sonakshi Sinha. In one scene, she had to hold his head with her legs. Her mother, Poonam Sinha, was there, which made him feel a bit shy. But Sonakshi made him feel comfortable. Jason added, “During one scene, Sonakshi ji had to grab my head with her legs. Her mother Poonam Sinha ji was also present, which made me a bit self-conscious. However, Sonakshi reassured me. She told me not to be conscious, asked me to relax, made me comfortable, and said she will do the necessary. I have such lovely memories from the show’s set.”

He also talked about filming a scene with co-star Jason Shah. He said Bhansali is a perfectionist and that they discussed the scene for an hour before filming it. “The scene didn’t need many retakes, which was satisfying because Sanjay sir doesn’t settle until he achieves what he wants. He’s such a perfectionist. Although I was nervous about the scene since it featured a man being close to another man, Jason and I discussed it beforehand for about an hour and then went with the flow,” he shared during a chat with Bollywood Now.

Talking about playing the character Ustadji, who is queer, Malik said he was interested in the role because it seemed challenging. He also mentioned that he felt it was perfect for him from the start. “That character has all sorts of emotions. As soon as I got a call from the casting department, I responded that it’s made for me,” he said.

News18 Showsha gave the series 4.5 stars. About Sonakshi, the review read, “Sonakshi Sinha plays the antagonist in Heeramandi. She is stunning, shrewd and sardonic. And she fears no one. She single-handedly fights a battle to win justice for her late mother and has no qualms about walking on the path of vices for the same. At the end, the women are all so much more than just tawaifs.”
