Sharvari Wagh Opens Up On Bunty Aur Babli 2 Box Office Failure: 'People In The Industry...'
Sharvari Wagh, who will now be a part of YRF's upcoming spy universe with Alia Bhatt, says both success and failures are great teachers.

“Bunty Aur Babli 2” may have failed at the box office but actor Sharvari credits her debut film for opening many doors in the industry.

The actor, who will be seen next in Aditya Sarpotdar’s horror comedy “Munjya”, has fond memories of working on the 2021 debut which featured Rani Mukerji and Saif Ali Khan. The film was a sequel to Yash Raj Films’ “Bunty Aur Babli” in 2005, originally starring Mukerji and Abhishek Bachchan.

“That film opened so many doors for me. People in the industry didn’t know me before this. They didn’t know who Sharvari was. You cannot term anything as a failure if you’re getting work from that.  I have been getting work from my first film. I will always be grateful to it, no matter what it did at the box office. I just want more work,” Sharvari told PTI in an interview.

The actor, who will now be a part of YRF’s upcoming spy universe with Alia Bhatt said both success and failures are great teachers. “I don’t come from a film background. For me, the dream was to get my first film and it’s always like that. This (Munjya) is my second film. There’s always a dream for a third film and a fourth film. But to get that first film when you’re not from this industry means the world,” Sharvari said.

“Munjya” is reportedly part of the horror-comedy universe that features movies like “Stree”, the upcoming sequel, and “Bhedia”. “Being a part of the two biggest IPs in Bollywood, which is the horror comedy universe and the spy universe, is great for someone who is just one film old,” the actor said.

YRF’s “Tiger”, “War” and “Pathaan” movies are part of a larger spy universe with characters criss-crossing paths. “There have been Salman (Khan) sir, Shah Rukh (Khan) sir, Hrithik (Roshan) sir. Here (horror comedy universe) we have Shraddha Kapoor, Raj Kummar Rao, Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon. In my film, there is Alia Bhatt, who is one of the biggest superstars of our country. I just want to give it my all hundred percent so that people love it and I get the same love as everybody else does in this universe,” she said.

Being a Maharashtrian, Sharvari said she could easily relate to the story of the Maddock-backed movie, about a young pre-teen boy who dies just after his ‘munj’ ceremony and becomes a ghost who wants to fulfill his worldly desires.

“This is a folklore that comes from Maharashtra and I am Maharashtrian.  For me, it was like an instant connection. I wanted to be a part of something that is first of its kind. Horror comedy universe is a humongous IP in India. To be a part of something like this was a no brainer,” she said.

The film also features Mona Singh, Abhay Verma, Sathyaraj of “Baahubali” movie fame in a pivotal role. It is releasing in theatres on Friday.
