Salman Khan, Not Shah Rukh Khan Or Aamir Khan, Is Kiran Rao's 'Favourite'; Here's Why
Kiran Rao named Salman Khan as her favourite Khan among Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan in an old interview.

Kiran Rao admires and respects Aamir Khan both as a person and an actor, but she is a major fan of Salman Khan. The Laapataa Ladies director had once shared her thoughts during an interview with India TV, about her favourite ‘Khan’ in the Bollywood industry and she named the Tiger 3 star.

In a clip that is doing the round of social media, the interviewer asked Kiran Rao,

“Shah Rukh Khan humesha ye kehte hai ki unki wife ke liye industry ke favour Khan Aamir hai. Aap ke liye industry ke favourite Khan kon hai?” Kiran responded, “Salman”. Aamir Khan who was sitting right next to her enquired, “Why?” Kiran continued, “I just enjoy watching him. I haven’t seen all his films but woh jab aate hai toh main dekhna chahti hu unko. He has got a charisma. Toh he entertains me. Maine ofcourse Dabangg dekhi, usse pahle No Entry mein unhone bohot achcha kia tha.” Aamir quipped, “Dabangg mein bhi achcha kaam kia.” Kiran added, “Maine Pyaar Kia, way back to his first film.”

Back in March, Salman Khan shared a glorious review of Kiran Rao’s latest release Laapataa Ladies. Backed by Aamir Khan, the indie film starred Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Ranta, Sparsh Shrivastava, Chhaya Kadam and Ravi Kishan. Salman took to X, previously known as Twitter, and revealed that he loved the film. Salman said he watched the film with his father, Salim Khan, and he too liked the film. However, his review featured a big mistake. Salman confused Laapataa Ladies as Kiran’s directorial debut whereas the filmmaker made her debut with Dhobi Ghat in 2010.

“Just saw Kiran Rao’s Laapataa Ladies. Wah wah Kiran. I really enjoyed it n so did my father. Congrats on your debut as a director, superb job. Kab kaam karogi mere saath?” Salman Khan wrote, addressing Kiran. The post led to several social media users schooling him about his mistake. They reminded him that Dhobi Ghat was Kiran Rao’s first film and even pointed out that Salman attended the premiere.

Laapataa Ladies has received impressive reviews from the critics. The film is set in rural backdrop of fictional Nirmal Pradesh. The narrative opens in a second-class train car with a number of recently married couples making their way to their separate villages. The brides are all wearing long ghunghats, or veils, covering their faces. After hurriedly stepping off the train and avoiding the night’s darkness, Deepak (Sparsh Shrivastava) takes his wife’s hand and heads toward his village only to realise he has left behind the woman he has married and dragged home the wrong bride. All hell breaks loose.

News18 gave the film a 4-star rating and wrote, “Rao manages to intertwine all these stories and juxtapose them with one another at right junctions, without being too in-your-face about it. The subtlety works beautifully as the stark contrast in each of the characters’ lives unfold. The best part about the film is that it doesn’t make women feel victimised or play the victim card. Laapataa Ladies is a film which should be celebrated by every gender. In the season of big screen larger-than-life entertainers, Rao’s film comes across as refreshing and turns out to be a clear winner.”
