Legendary Malayalam director Priyadarshan is gearing up for a significant milestone in his illustrious career as he is making his 100th film. According to reports, acclaimed actor Mohanlal will be playing the lead role in this milestone project, much to the delight of fans and the film industry alike.
Priyadarshan has confirmed that his 100th film will indeed star Mohanlal, marking yet another collaboration between the iconic director-actor duo. Their collaboration has already yielded numerous blockbusters, although their recent project, Kunjali Marakkar failed to meet audience expectations and was criticized online.
Rumours suggest that the new film will be titled Haram. Earlier, playback singer MG Sreekumar had fuelled speculations by sharing a cartoon-style poster for the project on social media. In his post, he hinted at a reunion with Mohanlal and Priyadarshan and wrote, “Next film probably as per the script, maybe next year, depending on the availability and schedules of all my colleagues. I hope all my well-wishers will like, support and share.”
This announcement came after the cancellation of another awaited project in which Mohanlal was to portray a boxer. Despite the setback, the buzz around Haram points to a strong comeback for the dynamic duo. Fans are particularly excited to see the story of Priyadarshan and Mohanlal, who delivered classics like Chithram, Kilukkam and many others.
Besides, Mohanlal made his first public appearance after resigning as the President of AMMA (Association of Malayalam Movie Artists). The actor attended the launch ceremony of the Kerala Cricket League. The Malayalam superstar was seen sporting a formal look. Mohanlal did not comment on the growing sexual harassment cases that have taken the Kerala film industry by storm at the time of reporting.
Mohanlal stepped down as the President of AMMA earlier this week amid the new wave of the MeToo movement in the Malayalam film industry. He had a 17-member executive committee, who also followed his lead and stepped down from the association.
Mohanlal, as well as the committee members, issued a joint statement about their exit. “AMMA has decided to disperse the executive committee on moral grounds in the light of allegations made by some actors against some of the committee members. A new committee will be formed after an election within two months,” the statement read.
