Mohit Chauhan Makes OTT Debut With Amar Singh Chamkila; What Is His Role in Diljit Dosanjh Film?

Mohit Chauhan will be seen gracing the screen this weekend with Imtiaz Ali’s Amar Singh Chamkila. The singer has faced the camera a few times in his music videos and a couple of movies. This time around, he is making a special appearance in Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra’s Netflix film. The news of his appearance in the film was confirmed by the platform when they released the music video of Baaja.

In the video released on YouTube, Mohit makes a cameo as a local Punjabi singer. Mohit was seen wearing clothes from the 1980s, sporting a black turban. The singer was singing the lyrics of Baaja. However, his role is limited to the song. Besides singing Baaja, Mohit also sang the song Ishq Mitaye.

Meanwhile, a star-studded premiere took place on Thursday night in Mumbai. The premiere was attended by Diljit, Parineeti and other stars of the film. Also present at the event were Kartik Aaryan and Triptii Dimri. A special screening was also hosted for selected fans earlier this week where Imtiaz Ali received a standing ovation.

Amar Singh Chamkila chronicles the life of the iconic Punjabi vocalist who met a tragic end at the age of 27. Diljit recently shared insights into the difficulties he encountered while mirroring Chamkila’s unique vocals.

During a conversation with Film Companion, Diljit disclosed the complexity of emulating Chamkila’s musical style, mentioning, “It was difficult because people have heard Chamkila’s songs like rhymes. So if someone else is singing it, it will 101 per cent look odd. But we have tried and AR Rahman sir’s team has helped us a lot."

Amar Singh Chamkila marks Imtiaz and Diljit’s first collaboration. The film releases on the OTT platform on April 12.
