Lata Mangeshkar, also known as the Nightingale of India, was one of the most celebrated singers globally. February 6, 2024, marks her second death anniversary. Her mellifluous voice continues to resonate with the hearts of millions of listeners. Lata Didi, as she was affectionately known by, had humble beginnings and started her career by reportedly charging only Rs 25 for her first track. Soon, she catapulted to fame and reportedly, her net worth grew to an enormous Rs 368 crore. Lata Mangeshkar also had a nice collection of cars. She had bought a Chevrolet early in her career. Her garage at Prabhu Kunj also had a Buick, a Chrysler, and a Mercedes. The last car was a gift from Yashraj Studios. As per the reports, her monthly income was around Rs 40 lakh. The money chiefly came from the royalty Lata Mangeshkar used to receive from her songs.

Lata Mangeshkar rose to musical prominence with the song Aayega Aane Wala. This song is from the film Mahal, written and directed by Kamal Amrohi. Khemchand Prakash had composed this track.

Among Lata Mangeshkar’s extensive repertoire, some of her most famous tracks include Lag Jaa Gale from the film Woh Kaun Thi. Raj Khosla had directed this film. Madan Mohan composed the music for this track. Raja Mehndi Ali Khan wrote the lyrics.

Another track sung by Lata Mangeshkar that became a huge hit was Allah Tero Naam, Ishwar Tero Naam. Jaidev composed the music while Sahir Ludhianvi penned the lyrics.

Lata Mangeshkar sang an estimated 30,000 songs in an almost eight-decade career and died at 92. She was admitted to the hospital for almost a month after contracting Covid-19 and breathed her last due to multi-organ failure in 2023. She was cremated at Mumbai’s Shivaji Park with full state honours on February 6, 2022. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was among those who paid their respects to the late singer. He was joined by cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar and star Shah Rukh Khan. Others included Aamir Khan, Ranbir Kapoor, Shraddha Kapoor, and Shankar Mahadevan. Vidya Balan and Anupam Kher also attended the funeral service.
