Nag Ashwin's Telugu sci-fi epic Kalki 2898 AD and Diljit Dosanjh's Punjabi romantic comedy Jatt & Juliet 3 have both entered the top 10 weekend performers.

Indian films are making waves at the North American box office. Nag Ashwin’s Telugu sci-fi epic Kalki 2898 AD and Diljit Dosanjh’s Punjabi romantic comedy Jatt & Juliet 3 have both entered the top 10 weekend performers, according to Deadline. Kalki 2898 AD, touted as the most expensive Indian film to date, secured the the number 5 spot, earning $5.4 million over the weekend in North America. Its total has reached $11 million, including earnings from Wednesday previews and Thursday’s opening day, marking the biggest opening for an Indian film in North America. The film’s first footage was revealed at San Diego Comic-Con last year.

If Telugu cinema is excelling, Punjabi is not far behind. Jatt & Juliet 3, starring Diljit Dosanjh and Neeru Bajwa, earned $1.8 million over the weekend, placing it at number 9 and bringing its total to $1.9 million at the North American box office. Diljit’s Coachella performance and his appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon have boosted his US popularity.

Released on June 27, Kalki 2898 AD stars Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan in pivotal roles. As per reports, Kalki 2898 AD has now surpassed Rs 500 crore at the worldwide box office. As per Sacnilk.com, Kalki 2898 AD earned an approximate of Rs 85 Cr India on Sunday. This has resulted in the film earning Rs 302 crore in its opening weekend in India. Telugu screenings contributed the most to the total Kalki 2898 AD box office collection so far. The Telugu version recorded a collection of Rs 162.1 Cr, Tamil version collected Rs 18.3 Cr, Hindi recorded a collection of Rs 110.5 Cr, Malayalam version collected Rs 9.7 Cr and Kannada version recorded Rs 1.8 Cr collection by the end of the opening weekend.

Meanwhile, according to Sacnilk, Jatt & Juliet 3 opened strong, earning Rs 3.5 crore on its first day. It slightly increased to Rs 3.6 crore on the second day and jumped to Rs 4.15 crore on the third day. The total collection over the first three days reached Rs 11.25 crore.
