Is Daemon Targaryen Destined To Die At Harrenhal? House Of The Dragon Episode 3 Teases Dark Future
In Episode 3, a line references a pivotal moment in George R.R. Martin's Fire & Blood, which is the death of Daemon Targaryen.

The most recent episode of House of the Dragon season two possibly hinted at Daemon Targaryen’s approaching demise. Thus far, Matt Smith’s character has made a few rash decisions, the most notable of which was the horrifying murder of Jaehaerys Targaryen, which brought the realm dangerously near to a civil war. He has set out to capture Harrenhal and establish an Army in the Riverlands with his dragon, Caraxes. As Daemon arrives at the cursed castle in the most recent episode, we get a peek at the destruction that will occur as the war unfolds.

In episode 3, there is an ominous line that references a pivotal point in George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood, which is Daemon Targaryen’s death.

Once Simon Strong and the remaining troops from the castle fire hand over Harrenhal to Daemon, the prince experiences a horrific vision. He wanders through the palace hallways and ends up in a chamber where he discovers a young Rhaenyra Targaryen stitching the head of dead Prince Jaehaerys back onto his body.

Upon awakening from the vision, Daemon discovers himself in the midst of a crumbling hallway, facing a weirwood tree.

Gayle Rankin portrays Alys Rivers, a lady who approaches him and says, “You will die in this place,” before turning around to leave.

Daemon dies in the book at one of the worst periods in Targaryen’s history. Daemon and Caraxes faced off against Aemond Targaryen and his dragon–the biggest known dragon–Vhagar in Harrenhal.

After what became known as the Battle Above God’s Eye, both dragons and riders fell into the God’s Eye lake, located in Harrenhal.

It starts off with Aemond securing his saddle on top of Vhagar.

This turns out to be a catastrophic mistake, as Daemon manages to leap off the back of his own dragon and deliver a lethal blow on his nephew.

He slashes through Aemond’s blinded eye with such force that the blade emerges from the “back of the young prince’s throat.”

Shortly after this tragic scene, both dragons and riders fall into the water that lies beneath them, and Vhagar’s blood heats the lake around her.

The skeleton of Aemond is found still strapped into his saddle and with Daemon’s Valyrian steel sword inserted up to its hilt in his eye socket. Both dragons die, and so do the two riders (apparently).

But Daemon is never discovered.

The narrative of Fire and Blood is composed of contradictory accounts, leading some to surmise that the Rogue Prince may have lived, while other narrators maintain that he was impossible to have survived.

It’s important to remember that things might still go differently in House of the Dragon, but given Alys’ ominous warning, this is a future to be ready for.

House of the Dragon takes place 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, and it is based on George R.R. Martin’s book Fire & Blood.

Westeros is on the verge of a brutal civil war in Season 2 of House of the Dragon, with the Black and Green Councils vying for Queen Rhaenyra and King Aegon, respectively.
