It is often said that age is just a number when it comes to fitness, now actor Ernie Hudson is proving this adage right. He recently attended a promotional event for Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire in London on March 21. The veteran actor, known for playing Winston Zeddemore in all Ghostbuster films since the 1984 original, attended the event in a simple black T-shirt and blue jeans. However, the fans were quick to notice how fit he looked even at the at age of 78. Now Hudson’s photos and videos from the event are going viral across social media platforms, with people clamouring to know the secret of his “youth”.
While speaking to People, Hudson said that he goes to the gym three times a week for one-hour sessions and also trains with a personal pilates instructor. His wife of 40 years, Linda Kingsberg, is also dedicated to fitness and aims to hit at least 10,000 steps per day. However, Hudson thinks that health is more than just exercising. He told People, “I’ve always looked at physicality more from a spiritual perspective than a physical. The spiritual thing dictates the physical more than the other way around. So when I’m in a good space, I’m aware of just how I’m living my life, and the other things fall in place.”

He was also quick to point out that most of the roles in his filmography do not require him to bulk up. The Basketball Diaries star said, “My career hasn’t been about focusing on my physicality.” He added, “I’m usually the warden or the principal, or I’m usually the guy in the suit.”
It is important to note that Hudson has not always been in prime health. In 1998 he was diagnosed with prostate cancer and in 2011 he was diagnosed with rectal cancer. The early detection of these serious diseases helped him beat cancer. The two-time cancer survivor has since advocated for cancer awareness and worked closely with organisations like The Prevent Cancer Foundation.
While speaking about the importance of HPV vaccines during an awareness campaign, Hudson said, “As a dad, there is nothing I wouldn’t do to protect my kids from cancer. Every parent needs to know there is an HPV vaccine that can protect your kids from cancer. Getting tested for cancer saved my life—getting your son or daughter vaccinated could save theirs.”
