Deepika Padukone has been recognised as a disruptor for the class of movers & shakers 2024 by an international publication Deadline.

Deepika Padukone, known for her myriad successes, recently added another feather to her cap. Joining the esteemed company of Eva Longoria, Uma Thurman, and Lee Sung Jin, Deepika has been recognised as a disruptor for the class of movers & shakers 2024 by an international publication Deadline. In her candid conversation with the publication, Deepika shared insights into her journey in the entertainment industry, addressing the stigma surrounding mental health and bringing Indian cinema on the global platform of Hollywood.

Deepika’s foray into Hollywood began with her debut in 2017’s xXx: Return Of Xander Cage. Reflecting on her journey in the film industry, including the experience of auditioning for Hollywood roles, she candidly shared, “About a decade ago, when I started my journey in the West auditioning, it was a really new process for me because I’d never had to audition. I wasn’t a trained actor, and I never went to a fancy acting school — everything that I’ve learned has been on the job.”

She acknowledged the challenging nature of Hollywood auditions, noting, “The systems are so different between Hollywood and Bollywood.” Drawing attention to the global recognition of Indian cinema, exemplified by the success of the film RRR, which made Oscar history with its Best Original Song in 2023 for Naatu Naatu, she pointed out, “I think the world has become smaller, and the world has come together and it’s really about telling great stories. Whether it’s working in Sweden or Bosnia, it’s about telling interesting stories that resonate for an audience across the world.”

Highlighting the evolving perception of Indian cinema on the global stage, she said that while India’s storytelling and work culture have remained consistent, what truly has evolved is the world’s acknowledgement of Eastern narratives, particularly India. She added that the significant change lies in the recognition that there exists a “world” outside America.

Currently, Deepika is involved in several exciting projects. First up is Kalki 2829 AD, set to release in May, where she shares screen space with Telugu actor Prabhas. Additionally, she is set to appear in Singham Again, the third installment of Rohit Shetty’s Singham series, alongside her husband Ranveer Singh. Moreover, she is slated to star in a Bollywood remake of the 2015 Robert De Niro and Anne Hathaway film The Intern. Notably, she will also produce this project through her Ka Productions banner.
