After a 36-year-long wait, Tim Burton has created a sequel to the 1988 beloved supernatural comedy Beetlejuice. The new film dubbed Beetlejuice Beetlejuice had a thrilling premiere at the Venice Film Festival’s opening night with the audience and critics giving it a 3-minute-long standing ovation after the screening. Cast members, Winona Ryder, Jenna Ortega, Michael Keaton, Willem Dafoe, Monica Bellucci and Justin Theroux joined Burton to thank the crowd by bowing down in front of them. A video from the event shows that the applause could have continued for a longer time, but the organisers dimmed the lights to help the cast exit the theatre.

As per Deadline, ahead of the world premiere, director Tim Burton shared with reporters that the 1988 film and this too are personal projects made with passion and not just for revenue. He shared that he got disillusioned with the movie business, but a sequel was long in the card and he was ‘renergised’ by the success of the Netflix show Wednesday.
“As much as I love it, I never understood why it (Beetlejuice) was a success. I could never place the film as something other than personal to me. So after all these years being able to work with Michael, Winona and Catherine again made it more personal. Over the past few years, I got disillusioned with the movie business. So I knew if I was going to do something I wanted to do it from my heart. I lost myself a bit, so this movie was re-energizing. Getting back to the things I love and working with the people I love. With this one, it didn’t matter how it turned out.”
Tim Burton’s horror comedy Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is scheduled to release on September 6. The story continues with the Deetz family returning to their Winter River home due to a tragedy. Lydia faces new chaos when her rebellious teenage daughter, Astrid, finds a mysterious model of the town in the attic and accidentally opens a portal to the afterlife, leading to Beetlejuice’s return when someone says his name three times. In this sequel, Michael Keaton reprises his role as the mischievous ghost, joined by original stars Winona Ryder and Catherine O’Hara, along with new cast members Justin Theroux, Monica Bellucci, Jenna Ortega and Willem Dafoe.
