Actor Arshad Warsi officially recorded his marriage with his wife Maria Goretti, 25 years after they got married.

Actor Arshad Warsi officially recorded his marriage with his wife Maria Goretti, 25 years after they got married. They met in 1991 and tied the knot on February 14, 1999. They have a son and a daughter. They had both a church and a nikah ceremony in 1999. Recently, on January 23, they decided to register their marriage. Warsi said they did it for legal reasons, realising its importance when dealing with property matters and for the future.

Arshad Warsi and Maria Goretii will mark their 25th wedding anniversary on Valentine’s Day. Despite their long marriage, they had never officially registered it. However, this time around, the Munna Bhai M.B.B.S actor and his wife decided to make it special by registering their marriage in court on January 23.

In an interview with The Times Of India, Arshad explained that registering their marriage never crossed their minds before, and they didn’t consider it important. However, they recognized its importance when handling property affairs and planning for the future. “We did it for the sake of the law. Otherwise, I feel as partners, if you are committed to each other, then that’s all that matters,” he said. He also mentioned, “I hate to share my wedding date with anyone because it sounds so cheesy. Both Maria and I are embarrassed about this! It was never intentional, though”.

He added, “Maria’s parents wanted us to get married soon. We couldn’t during Lent, and then I was getting busy with work. We didn’t waste one year and the one date that looked feasible to us back then was Feb 14, so we went ahead with it. Now I have the scariest memory of Valentine’s Day that I got married.”

Maria also spoke about their court wedding. She said they wanted to do it for a while. They got married under the Special Marriage Act. Maria mentioned their kids couldn’t come because only witnesses were allowed. Sitting in the courtroom, she remembered laughing a lot with her husband.

“Yes, I married the same man for the third time! Who does that?” she joked.
