Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra’s Amar Singh Chamkila has finally been released amid much anticipation. Earlier, the actors, along with the director Imtiaz Ali, appeared on The Great Indian Kapil Show. Imtiaz revealed on the show that Shah Rukh Khan once called Diljit the best actor in the country.
“Shah Rukh Khan once told me that Diljit Dosanjh is the best actor in the country. I feel that if Diljit paaji had refused to do this film, then we could have never made it. So, we were very lucky. We couldn’t have asked for a better cast than this, both are extremely good. Parineeti is an actor, singer, and someone who was immediately ready to put on 15 kilograms for her character. It was nice and comforting,” Imtiaz revealed.
Speaking with News18 Showsha earlier in March, Imtiaz said that he couldn’t imagine anyone but Diljit and Parineeti in the lead for the film. “It was mandatory for me to cast actors who are singers as well. It was important for them to sing live. This film wouldn’t have been possible without them. It’s not like Diljit didn’t train a lot like Parineeti did but he does live singing and is used to it. They both recorded the songs after singing them live. The reason behind this is that I’ve never had singers singing live during a shot. I thought that in case, the live singing doesn’t work out, we can always use the recorded version and use it as playback like we usually do,” he told us exclusively.
News18 gave the film 3.5/5 stars. Our review read, “Diljit delivers a stupendous act as the protagonist. The character of Amar Singh Chamkila is tailor-made for him and he pours his heart out into it. His hard work is palpable and yet his performance is effortless. Watching him become Chamkila and sing his songs will fill your heart up with unadulterated joy. Even in some heavy-weight scenes, he brings a rare restraint to the fore and renders a whole new layer of poise. It, inarguably, is his career-best performance. And somewhere in the middle, you will see him becoming one with Chamkila and very soon, you won’t be able to separate these forces that forever changed the music industry of Punjab.”
