The upcoming Kannada film Kunte Bille features a unique title derived from a traditional children’s game, marking a distinctive choice by the filmmakers. Despite its unusual title, the choice was made to align with the story’s narrative, which is set in a village backdrop, where the Kunte Bille game is popular.

The film’s first scene was clapped in by Mysore’s Prince Yaduveer Wadiyar, providing a moment of pride for the film team. The production features newcomers in key roles including the lead actor and the producer, with the producer Kumar Gowda venturing into filmmaking after his initial aspirations to become an artist did not pan out in the industry.

Actress Meghasri, returns to the screen with this project after a break. She portrays a girl from a wealthy village family, finding the film’s storyline unique and compelling, which drew her back into acting.

Directed by Siddegowda GBS, the film’s title Kunte Bille is inspired by a game that evokes nostalgic childhood emotions, contributing to the thematic depth of the film. This decision emphasises the emotional resonance the title holds with the rural setting and story.

Kunte Bille is a type of hopscotch played by girls in rural villages of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. It is also played as tokkudu billa in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Girls play this recreational sport by hopping on the courts. Currently, this popular outdoor game is disappearing due to literacy, urbanisation and the influence of Western games.

Meghasri is an actress who primarily works in Kannada, Telugu and Bhojpuri films. She is also popular for playing the lead role in the supernatural television series Nagakannike and Jothi. Meghasri made her film debut with the Telugu film Darlinge Osina Darlinge (2014) before playing the lead role in Anaganaga Oka Chitram (2015). She made her Tamil debut with Ka Ka Ka: Aabathin Arikuri (2017). The same year, she made her Kannada debut with the film March 22, playing a supporting role in Oxygen. Meghasri also played an important role in Jr. NTR’s biggest hit Aravinda Sametha Veera Raghava (2018).
