Aamir Khan REVEALS He Auditioned For A Role In Laapataa Ladies But Got Rejected: 'We Feared That...'
Aamir Khan got candid about auditioning for a role in Kiran Rao's directorial Laapataa Ladies.

Jio Studios and Aamir Khan’s Productions ‘Laapataa Ladies’ is gaining momentum as the film is nearing its release. While the trailer has introduced the audience to the humorous world created by director Kiran Rao, it has piqued the excitement to witness this comedy-drama starring Pratibha Ranta, Sparsh Shrivastav, and Nitanshi Goel. Talking about the film, Aamir Khan revealed in a recent interview that he had auditioned for a role but it eventually went to Ravi Kishan.

Speaking at the ABP Majha event, Aamir Khan shared, “The story was really good, and there was a very good character in it. I thought I would offer this story to Kiran, she might like it. I wanted to do a role in the film, and Kiran said, ‘You are a very big star, my film is small, you will disbalance it.’ I said, ‘At least let me give a screen test, let’s see if I suit the role or not.’ So, I gave the screen test.”

He continued, “After giving the screen test, both Kiran and I liked it, but we both feared that if I come as a star, people will have expectations. We felt that I should not be in the film in any case.”

Following this, the actor suggested Kiran Rao that he is ready to go through an overall change in appearance like Robert Downey Jr in Tropic Thunder but the director’s response dissuaded him, “Main huliya badal dunga,” to which Kiran replied, “Toh faida kya hai,” he recalled.

Recently, Aamir and Kiran also graced the stage of News18 India Chaupal when they opened up on their film Laapata Ladies and talked about working with Rao after the divorce. “Has a doctor said that when a divorce happens, you immediately become enemies? I consider myself fortunate that Kiran came into my life, and our journey has been very fulfilling for me. We have created a lot together, both personally and professionally, and we will continue to move forward together. We are connected on a human and emotional level, and we will always be. We are like a family,” he said.

The film was extensively shot in the Sehore village of Madhya Pradesh. The director Kiran Rao will also be inviting the entire village people to the premiere.

Presented by Jio Studios, ‘Laapataa Ladies’ is directed by Kiran Rao and produced by Aamir Khan and Jyoti Deshpande. The film is releasing on March 1st, 2024, and has been made under the banner of Aamir Khan Productions and Kindling Productions, with the script based on an award-winning story by Biplab Goswami. The screenplay and dialogue are written by Sneha Desai, while the additional dialogues have been jotted down by Divyanidhi Sharma.
