The delivery executive of a popular food delivery app and the owner of a Chinese restaurant in Lucknow were booked this week based on a complaint by a family that they were sent “chilli chicken” instead of “chilli paneer”. In his complaint, Rakesh Kumar Shastri, who claimed to be ‘associated’ with the local Lord Balaji Temple, said his family accidentally consumed the dish and were “feeling uneasy” since.

The incident reportedly took place on October 9 when Shastri and his family ordered food via a popular app from a Chinese cuisine restaurant in Alambagh.

“I placed an order of dry chilli paneer from a Chinese restaurant in the Alambagh area of Lucknow. But, instead of serving me chilli paneer, the restaurant and the delivery boy Imran served a non-vegetarian dish, which I and my family realised only after consuming it,” reads the FIR.

Shastri alleged his religious sentiments were hurt and his family’s health had suffered. A social media post describing the incident also led to angry reactions from netizens. In a 1.05-minute video, Shastri accused the restaurant of breaching his trust.

Police have lodged an FIR against the delivery executive and the restaurant owner under relevant sections.

“An FIR was registered under relevant sections of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the matter is under investigation,” said Chhatrapal Kumar, station house officer (SHO), Police Station Ashiyana, Lucknow.
