- Won The Toss And Elected to - First

The clash of the ‘big egos’, in the words of the Proteas’ batter Quinton de Kock himself, is finally here. South Africa and Australia are set to face off against each other in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

And here at the toss in Lucknow, the Aussies won the toss and chose to bowl first.

The Australians are coming off a tough loss against host nation India, where the Aussies crumbled under the heat and folded for a mere 199 runs over an entire innings. Despite some favorable bowling from the pacers, they still couldn’t hold on and took the loss in their initial game of the tournament.

For South Africa though, it is anything but loss. The Proteas got off to an absolutely blistering start in the World Cup this year, putting up a record total with ease, and clobbering their opposition Sri Lanka into submission.

Not only that, even in face-offs between these two super-egos, South Africa has magnificently triumphed over the Aussie. The Aussies won an abysmal 5 out of 20 fixtures against the Proteas.

The most recent incident, being that of the 5-match ODI series that both teams played in, ended up the Proteas coming back from 2-0 down to win the series 3-2. And, here go the two titans of world cricket in the biggest of stages, yet again.

Captain’s Comments:

Pat Cummins (AUS): We are going to have a bowl. Not too sure what’s to make of this wicket. It seems like it’s got a bit of moisture. Two changes. Stoinis is back in place of Green and Josh Inglis comes in for Alex Carey. Fee runs short (vs India), really happy with the way we bowled.

Temba Bavuma (SA): I wasn’t too sure, whatever we do first, we’ll have to do well. Shamsi comes in for Coetzee. Bit of both (conditions and for the opposition). Shamsi has had decent success against them, we’d like to unleash them. There could be some spin and bounce.
