Aespa's Winter To Focus On Recovery After Pneumothorax Surgery
Soon after the news of Winter's health and collapsed lung surfaced online, her agency SM Entertainment were quick to share an update.

Aespa member Kim Min Jeong, aka Winter, is currently in the hospital recovering from pneumothorax surgery or collapsed lung. This condition happens when air leaks from the lung due to a hole in its surface. Common symptoms include chest pain and difficulty breathing, which can suddenly arise but goes away within 24 hours. Ahead of the surgery, the South Korean dancer and singer completed a concert in Japan and despite this setback, the K-Pop idol is preparing for a world tour starting from June and a planned comeback in May. Typically, pneumothorax surgery requires hospitalisation for 2 to 3 days, while full recovery can take an additional month or two.

Soon after the news of Winter’s health spread online, SM Entertainment confirmed her situation. They stated that the decision was made in consultation with medical professionals and assured fans that the artist will return to the stage soon. A representative informed Hankook Kyungjae, “Winter is recovering from recent pneumothorax surgery. As the disease is prone to recurrence, the decision was made after sufficient discussion as a preventive measure based on the opinions of the medical staff. Future schedules will be made with Winter’s recovery status as the top priority.”

According to the portal, the pain from pneumothorax can feel different for each person. It’s often described as a sharp stabbing feeling in the back or chest. If someone is facing similar sensations that happen regularly, it’s important to consult a doctor. Managing pneumothorax is crucial because it can come back often. While there’s no guaranteed way to prevent it, quitting smoking can be a big help since smoking raises the risk of it coming back. In some cases, surgery can also help.

Winter is expected to join her girl group Aespa for their Live Tour – Synk: Parallel Line. The quartet is set to kick off their performances in Seoul on June 29, followed by stops in Fukuoka, Nagoya, Saitama, Osaka, Hong Kong, Taipei, Jakarta, Sydney, Melbourne, Macau and Bangkok. An earlier Instagram post hinted that there will be additional stops, which are yet to be announced. Currently, the exact venues and ticketing details remain undisclosed.

Interestingly, the group is also gearing up for the release of their World Tour movie, scheduled to hit screens on April 24 and 27. Alongside Winter, Aespa includes Karina, Giselle and Ning Ning, who debuted in 2020 with the hit song Black Mamba. Since then, they have delighted fans with hit tracks like Next Level, Spicy and Savage.
