After investigating the sex racket wherein a girl from Kazhakuttam was taken to Dubai using a forged passport, the Crime Branch Organised Crime Wing (OCW) has found that another victim was trapped after being promised a job abroad. A woman named Leena, of Wadakanchery, has been identified as the kingpin of the trafficking racket that takes women from the state for prostitution in Dubai.
According to the CB officials, they have tracked down a girl, whose identity will not be revealed now. She had escaped from the clutches of the racketeers. “She arrived at her home a few months ago. Leena, kingpin of the racket from Wadakanchery, Thrissur, operates in conjunction with agents across the state. She is influential, and has got the backing of authorities in Dubai and India. We will seek the help of agencies in Dubai to initiate the procedure to nab her and the others involved in the racket,” the official said.
According to CB Assistant Commissioner V M Varghese, the racket has a wider network than expected. “We suspect that several girls have been taken to Dubai using fake passports. Girls from poor financial backgrounds are targeted and taken to Dubai on the pretext of getting a job. The girl whom we identified was also financially backward,” said Varghese.
The CB has discovered that the woman whose passport was used for taking the girl had also been trapped in a similar manner. “She was intimidated into giving her passport to the racketeers so that other girls can be taken to Dubai,” the CB official said.
The case came to light when a girl from Kazhakuttam escaped from the net of the racketeers and reached Mumbai with the help of Dubai-based Keralites a few months ago.
She was first enticed by a woman in Thiruvananthapuram offering a housemaid’s job even without a passport. She was later transported to Dubai via Muscat with the assistance of a Sub Inspector at the Nedumbassery Airport. After reaching Dubai, the girl learnt about the trap and escaped. However, when she arrived at Mumbai, the Immigration Wing took her into custody for travelling with a forged passport. Later, she was handed over to the Kerala police.
