Madrid: World number one Caroline Wozniacki survived a stiff test from teenage Serbian Bojana Jovanovski in the second round of the Madrid Open on Tuesday, coming through 6-4 6-4 against the unseeded 19-year-old.
Dane Wozniacki had her serve broken three times but managed five breaks of her own to set up a third-round clash against former number one Dinara Safina of Russia or in-form German Julia Goerges, who won last week's Stuttgart event.
"Not the best game but happy to get through and always difficult to play against a young upcoming player," Wozniacki, 20, wrote on her Twitter account.
In other second round matches on the clay at the futuristic Magic Box arena, fifth seed and 2010 French Open finalist Samantha Stosur edged past unseeded Slovakian Daniela Hantuchova 7-6 7-5.
Stosur's Australian compatriot Jarmila Gajdosova fought back from a set down to upset 10th-seeded Pole Agnieszka Radwanska 3-6 6-3 6-3.
