Worli Hit-And-Run Case: Accused Mihir Shah Sent To Jail For 14 Days
The horrific accident claimed the life of a woman who was on a two-wheeler along with her husband when Shah's car rammed into them

Mihir Shah, the main accused in the Worli hit-and-run case and son of a Shiv Sena leader, was remanded to judicial custody for 14 days on Tuesday.

He was produced before Chief Metropolitan Magistrate SP Bhosale at the Sewri court, where the court extended his remand.

The police sought an extension of his custody, arguing that Mihir had not provided information about the individuals who harboured him while he was on the run.

Additionally, he has yet to reveal details about the missing number plate, according to public prosecutors Ravindra Patil and Bharti Bhosle.

Mihir was arrested on July 9 in Thane district, two days after allegedly ramming his BMW into a two-wheeler, resulting in the death of Kaveri Nakhwa, 45, and injuring her husband Pradeep in the early hours of July 7. The couple’s two-wheeler was struck from behind by the luxury car allegedly driven by Mihir on Worli’s arterial Annie Besant Road.

The investigation revealed that the accused sped off towards the Bandra-Worli Sea Link even as Kaveri remained on the car’s bonnet, eventually becoming entangled in its wheels for a distance of over 1.5 kilometers.

According to the police, Mihir was “heavily intoxicated,” having consumed “12 pegs of whiskey” at the time of the accident. He was reportedly “well aware” of something “trapped” beneath his car.

Mihir’s father, Rajesh Shah, a Shiv Sena leader from the Eknath Shinde faction in Palghar district, and their family driver, Rajrishi Bidawat, have also been named as accused in this high-profile case.

As per the police, Rajesh took an active part in ensuring his son’s escape and had plans to tow away the offending vehicle. He is currently out on bail. Whereas, their driver, Rajrishi, who was allegedly sitting in the car and swapped seats with Mihir, is also in judicial custody.

The accused have been booked under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including section 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder).
