KOCHI: The women shadow police commenced their initiative with a bang by arresting eight persons — from bus stops in different parts of the city for pinching and unnecessarily touching women and girls. The women shadow operated by standing in bus stops in civil clothes accompanied by male shadows. Many Romeos unaware of the operation were caught red-handed on Saturday. M V Ramesh, Assistant Commissioner (Special Branch), said that women police were roped in to tackle eve-teasing. As the rush at shopping malls and bus stands tends to increase during Onam, incidence of eve-teasing cannot be ruled out. The shadow women will patrol through isolated streets during the night. The women squad will also keep a close tab in buses where seats meant for women are usurped by men quite often. Women who encounter trouble need to just make a call and action will initiated within days.
