VELLORE: A woman immolated herself and died due to a family dispute, near KV Kuppam in Vellore on Wednesday. Govindhasamy(40) of Keezhvalayanur near KV Kuppam was married to Sankari (36) 10 years ago. Sources said, Govindhasamy was an alcoholic and the couple fought frequently. During one such quarrel, Govindhasamy’s wife got depressed and set herself on fire. Govindhasamy, who tried to save her, also received severe burns. Both were rushed to the Vellore GH where Sankari died on Wednesday.3 Arrested for Illegal Sand MiningThree persons were arrested for illegal sand mining, during a vehicle check conducted in various places of Vellore on Wednesday.Vellore taluk police were involved in a vehicle check near Arni Road, when they intercepted a tractor and arrested the driver, Gopi(19) of Arni, who was carrying a load of sand that was illegally mined. The tractor was also seized. Ilayaraja (24) of Melpatti near KV Kuppam was also arrested for illegal sand mining. Jeeva (24) of Periyapettai, who was carrying a load of sand in his bullock cart from Vaniyambadi Devasthanam river bed was also arrested.6 Hurt in Mishap Six persons were injured in a mishap near Ambur when an omni bus rammed into a container lorry.When the omni bus reached Marapattu four lane road near Ambur, the driver Siva (32) tried to overtake a container lorry, but rammed it. Driver Siva, cleaner Anandkumar of Manalurpettai and passengers Shalini, Dhanasekaran, Rajesh and Anitha were injured in the accident. They were rushed to the Ambur GH and later shifted to Vellore GH. Ambur police filed a case.
