HYDERABAD: Telangana Rashtra Samiti chief K Chanadrasekhara Rao on Saturday slammed Union home minister P Chidambaram for saying that the solution to the Telangana tangle had to come from the people of the state themselves. “If the solution to the Telangana issue is to come from the state, where is the need for the Centre and why should there be a home minister at Delhi?’’ he wondered while speaking after unveiling a statue of Telangana ideologue K Jayashankar at Telangana Bhavan on his birth anniversary.“Chidambaram, whom I regarded as a mature politician, tried to abdicate his responsibility by transferring the onus to Andhra Pradesh and saying that the Centre would only act as a facilitator of a decision that should essentially come from the state.“The Indian Constitution has invested the Centre with powers to divide a state. The Centre should exercise its powers and deliver Telangana. Instead, asking the people of Andhra Pradesh to resolve the issue themselves is something very unfortunate. If we have to settle the issue here, then why should you be there?” he asked. At another function, the TRS chief appealed to the people of Telangana region not lose heart because Chidamabram had passed the buck to the people of the state. “You have to remain determined. Perseverance is very important,” he said. The TRS supremo said the people of Telangana were watching how sincere the leaders were on Telangana issue. “They are waiting for the 2014 general election to give their verdict. We have to work hard to ensure that Telangana becomes a reality by the next general election and thus win their hearts. To open a lock you should use the right key. We should find out where that key is.”
